The Skerries Wild Bee Festival, held from June 20-22, 2025, celebrated nature and community, bringing together biodiversity experts and residents. Organized by volunteers and supported by Fingal County Council, the festival emphasized small actions to support pollinators. Keynote speaker Professor Jane Stout highlighted Skerries’ role in community-led biodiversity efforts.

From May 12 to 18, Skerries will host various events during Dublin Climate Action Week 2025, focusing on sustainability. Highlights include climate conversations with Jacinta Barrins, a nature walk, an upcycling workshop, and orchard care. All events aim to foster community engagement and inspire action toward a greener future.

Audience of the 2025 Annual Meeting

The 2025 Annual Meeting for Sustainable Skerries was a great success, featuring updates on diverse environmental projects and the launch of the Skerries Eco Town Booklet. New chair Katie Lattimore expressed enthusiasm for her role and appreciation for departing chair Sabine McKenna. Guest speaker Adrian Kelly shared insights on sustainable energy, prompting engaging discussion.

The Sustainable Skerries Annual Meeting 2025 will take place on January 29, 2025, at Skerries Harps GAA Club. The event features a talk by Adrian Kelly on sustainable energy and launches the Skerries Eco Town Booklet. Attendance is free, and snacks will be provided. RSVP via Eventbrite is encouraged.

The Cuppa for Climate event on November 12 focused on raising awareness and building solidarity for climate action. Organized by Katie Lattimore, it highlighted the urgent need for accountability from leaders and stressed that climate injustice affects vulnerable communities disproportionately. Individual and collective actions, along with political engagement, are vital for meaningful change.

Members of Sustainable Skerries attended an engagement evening regarding the Harbour Road enhancements and Red Island Loop. They supported plans focusing on biodiversity, accessibility for residents with mobility issues, and separating pedestrian and cycling pathways. Concerns included balancing lighting with wildlife preservation. The project promises to significantly improve public space safety and aesthetics.

The Skerries Eco Festival on September 27-29 will feature talks, workshops, music, an eco fair, and a comedy show. Activities include a children’s workshop, art collaboration, photo competition, and opportunities to volunteer.
